The Best Tips for Boiling & Peeling Eggs

  • Is the pesty shell on your boiled eggs hard to peel? If so, here's tips that will help you.

  • Use cold, older eggs that are 7-10 days old.

  • Add either of these to the water, 1 tbsp of white vinegar, 1 tsp of baking soda OR 1 tbsp of salt.

  • Bring the water to a simmering boil, THEN add the eggs. Using a large spoon, lower them into the pot carefully.

  • DO NOT add them to cold, still water.

  • The water should cover the eggs completely.

  • AFTER boiling, tap each egg lightly to form a slight crack avoiding splitting the egg white.
  • Then immediately transfer the eggs to an ice bath (water with ice) for 10-15 minutes.

  • AFTER the ice bath, crack the wider end of the egg and roll it on a flat surface to crack it a little more while not applying too much pressure. Cracking it on the wider end releases the membrane to ensure that it comes off with the shell.

  • If the shell is still not peeling off easily, continue peeling the shell off under running cold water.

  • COOL TRICK ALERT! Put the boiled eggs in a glass dish that has a lid. Add about 1 inch of warm water. Secure the lid on the dish. Gently shake the dish approximately 40 times. YES, 40 times. This will start cracking the eggs to ensure easier peeling.

2026 Catering Wedding Trends

1. "Food Theatre" & Interactive Stations ~ This is a great opportunity to break the ice. Imagine a chef cooking items on the menu while your guest watch and then get to eat it. Or an interactive Baked Potato Bar where your guests get to make it just like they like it from the toppings offered. It causes people to mingle and move around rather than just sitting throughout your event.

2. Menus That Tell Your "Love Story" ~ Wouldn't it be awesome if your menu was a reflection of your love story? Yes, it would be! Do both of you love getting pretzel bites and cheese dip at the movies? Why not have them during the cocktail hour? Have the MC let your guests know why this item is on the menu. It creates a special moment that your guests would enjoy knowing.

3. Bougie Comfort Food ~ If you're like me, you like seeing food that's beautifully presented. So, how about desserts in shooter cups? Or elevate your mashed potato bar by serving them in mini martini cups. It offers smaller portions, but it also gives your guest an opportunity to try each item in different ways rather than all of the food on one plate.

4. The "After Party" Surprise ~ This is a late-night unexpected item that comes out towards the end of the reception. Surprise your guests with a mini bowls of chips & dip or a sweet charcuterie cup. Your late-night surprise can be setup on a buffet table or tray passed.
